I am researching the family of:

JOHN WESLEY KISER . Feburary 21,1862 Illinois. d. May 17, 1941 Pleasant Dale, Nebraska. buried at Pleasant Dale Cemetery.  He married:

OLIVE F. ENSIGN, b.June 26,1871 Lincoln, Nebraska. She d. December 5, 1937, Caldwell, Kansas and is buried in Enid, Oklahoma, Concord Cemetery.

They were married on December 8, 1889 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

They had tree children from this marriage:

HATTIE ISBELLA KISER b. October 28, 1890 Pleasant Dale, Nebraska. b. December 10, 1970 and is buried in Wichita, Kansas  at White Chapel Memorial Gardens.(my grandmother.)

CLAUDE KISER b. March 8, 1895 Pleasant Dale, Nebraska d. January 27, 1969 in Yuma, Colorado.

Hi Missy,

I now have a copy of the Pleasant Dale Centennial History Book 1882-1982. I have been going through it and posting some of the terrific old photos and biographies on our website one by one.

There is no index in it, so I can't look up specific people, but I remember seeing KISER in it for sure and will keep watching for all of your research names as I scrutinize the book. I will post again here when I find more.

First, on the map directory for the early business district of Pleasant Dale (page 5) I found two buildings of interest:
"6. KISER BUILDING" (built 1887, burned April 1932); listed among businesses in the building: "Bill Kiser Pool Hall 1887" and a second listing "Bill Kiser Pool Hall 1912"

"24. KISER BUILDING#2" (built 1913 by Bill Kiser, torn down about 1950, lumber reused by Arthur and Vernon Piening); listed among businesses in the building: "Bill Kiser Pool Hall 1913-1914" and "Bill Kiser Skating Rink 1914-1915".

I don't know if Bill is related to your Kisers or not, but I thought you might be interested in him. Sometime in the next few weeks I will post the Pleasant Dale business directory on our website. Meanwhile, I will be sure to watch for your names in the book.

Best wishes,
Alice

I to have a copy of Pleasant Dale Nebraska Centennial History book  1882-1982. I aquired it the last time we were in Nebraska back in September of 2004. I just feel that I got lucky  getting it for the price I got it for, which was 5.00. It was the last one that they had.

Bill Kiser was my grandmothers uncle on her fathers side of the family. He seemed to have  ran pool halls where ever he was living at the time.

John Wesley Kiser was my greatgrandfather, son of John and Isabel Kiser, he was born Feb. 28, 1862 at Dixon, Illinois. In the year of 1876 he came with his family to Pleasant Dale, Nebraska where they took a homestead. He married Olive I. Ensign of Lincoln, Nebraska on December 8, 1889,  She is the daughter of Almond Webster Ensign, and Isabell McDill Coulter. John Wesley died May 17, 1941 at the age of 79 ars 2 months and 17 days. He is buried in Oklahoma. To this marriage came 3 children. one daughter and  2 sons.

1. (my grandmother). Hattie Isabel Kiser b Oct 28, 1890 in Pleasant Dale. d. Dec. 10, 1972, in Wichita, Kansas. Buried at White Chapel Memorial Gardens  there in Wichita, Kansas. She married Roy Warren Pearson. They had 11 children.

2. Claude Kiser b. Feb 8, 1895 in Pleasant Dale, Nebraska. He married  Hazel  Bessie Best  in August 8, 1918. She was the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth Best of Pleasant Dale, Nebraska. She died at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 22 days. Claude Kiser died  January 27, 1969. He died of lung cancer. He is buried in Glendale Cemetary near Vernon ColoradoThey had 2 children from this marriage. Gerald Leroy Kiser b.Dec 24, 1920. and Phyllis Elaine June 7, 1923. Claude and Hazel were farming there at that time. They were married while Claude was in the Navy. After being discharged forn the Navy they lived in the Pleasant Dale area and Claude worked on the railroad and farmed.Claude moved his family to a farm near Vernon, Colorado in the spring of 1924. That was Claude and Hazel's home for the rest of their lives.Except for two years that they lived in the Fort Morgan area in 1946-1948. They farmed wheat and corn and had hogs and cattle, as most people did then. they also raised chickens and milked cows.Claude was  quite active in the American Legoin. He was a strong Republican and enjoyed argueing politics. He was small in stature.

3. David O. Kiser was b. June 10, 1898 in Oklahoma. He married Buelah Monroe. They moved to Wichita, Kansas. They had one daughter from this marriage. Jean B. Kiser. Jean never married, and died in April 1999, in Wichita, Kansas. David worked as a postal worker in Wichita, Kansas and died Feb 14, 1943, in Wichita, Kansas and is buried at Old Mission Cemetery, there in Wichita.  Buelah his wife is also buried there beside him in Wichita. Along with her sister Clara Monroe.

I am going back up to Kansas in a few weeks and hope to get some pics taken of there tombstones, so I will have more dates on her birth and death. Also daughter Jean is buried there in Wichita, somewhere and I am going to try to find where she is also.

I got to visit  Pleasant Dale while I was in Nebraska  and took pictures of the cemetery, and there tombstones, so I will try to get them sent to you as soon as possible.

I also took several pics of the Best family tombstones while there, so I will send them also.

I really am enjoying looking for my ancestors, and hope to find out more as the years go on. I know that my gr-gr-grandparents John Kiser and his wife  Isebell  Allen are also buried in Pleasant Dale Cemetery, I have found his head stone but have not found hers yet.

hope to send pics soon

Carolyn (missyid)

P.S. I don't know how to send the pics directly to this site with this email so I will send them seperatly.

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

GREAT, thank you in advance for any grave/cemetery photos you can send me! Please put the cemetery name and the month/year they were taken, if remembered, inside the email you attach the files to, so I can keep things straight.

There is no way for you guys to post photos directly to our website, so please email them to me at:
alice@sewardne.info
and I will post them. I prefer to receive your original camera files or scans, rather than versions you have modified using software, so I can then resize them, tweak the contrast and lighting, etc. to make them look their best on our website.

I am so glad you got your hands on the wonderful Pleasant Dale book (and what a steal; I paid a LOT for mine on eBay). I wish I could personally thank the people who put that together, it's a wonderful tribute to Pleasant Dale. I feel certain they would approve of our including some of the book's treasures on our website, with proper credit to the book.

As I'm sure our great-grandmothers in Seward County would agree, a lot of good work can get done in the middle of winter if we put our minds to it! I am pretty happy with the progress on our website, and hope all of you feel the same.

Warmest wishes,
--Alice
