[FAQ] What is an Avatar (forum face)?

[FAQ] What is an Avatar (forum face)?

Many forum members ask me what an "avatar" is. It is one of the options in your user profile that you fill out when you join, and that you can update/edit at any time by clicking on your name and choosing "edit profile."

An "avatar" is your "forum face." People see it any time they view your message, your member info, or the "list all users" page. Your "forum face" can be your real picture, one of the generic choices available on your edit profile page, OR, by far my favorite, a picture of one of your ancestors.

As an example, you can see my forum face (my great-grandmother Martha Viola Wallick Hageman), on this very message. I would be happy to make one for you, too, if you could send me a family member's picture of any size that I will resize (100 x 100 pixels maximum) for your forum face.

I have done this for one of you so far, and would be happy to do it for any of you who asks, as long as it is a picture of a member of your family (son or daughter is fine, too). You can have any forum face you want, but my offer of free customization is only for a picture of someone in your family.

I think it will look really neat if many of our forum members use Seward-connected ancestor pictures as their forum faces!

Have fun,
--Alice
